Dr. Michael Onstad

Dr.Onstad is a native of Colorado (born in Denver and moving here in1950) and has resided in the Colorado Springs area for the past 31 years.
Dr. Onstad attended Steele Elementary, North Junior High School and Palmer High School where he was the Student Body President, a member of the City Champions of High School Hockey and was an Eagle Scout. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He then continued his education at the State University of New York at Buffalo obtaining his doctor of dental surgery degree and doing a Fellowship with the American Cancer Society.  Following his dental school training he went on to pursue advancedtraining in dentistry at Denver Health and Hospitals as a General Practice Resident. Dr. Onstad then practiced five years as a general dentist inColorado Springs. This experience has provided him with a unique perspective for practicing the specialty of Maxillofacial & Oral Surgery andcommunicating with his dental colleagues. He returned for his specialty training in Maxillofacial & Oral Surgery, which was completed at Denver Health and Hospitals in 1984. 
Specialty Courses
Dr.Onstad has been at the forefront of Implant Dentistry since 1986, and has lectured on the topic worldwide in the United States, Central and South America, Russia and Japan. He is involved in numerous research endeavors related to Maxillofacial & Oral Surgery. In addition to being certified in basic life support, he has advanced training in Cardiac Life Support.
Professional Organizations
Dr.Onstad is a past president of the Colorado Springs Dental Society, and a member of the Colorado and American Dental Associations. He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Colorado Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a Fellow in the International College of Dentists and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and a Diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He sits on the Credentials Committee at Penrose and Penrose-St.Francis hospitals. He is amember of the Head and Neck Cancer Team at Penrose Hospital. 
Dr.Onstad is an avid supporter of Colorado College and in particular their hockey program. He is a season ticket holder for CC hockey and the Colorado Avalanche. He is a passionate cyclist and frequently rides in support of charitable events. He also enjoys high performance automobile driving events and is a member of the Porsche Club of America. Dr.Onstad supports local cultural venues such as The Colorado Springs Philharmonic, The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, KCME and KRCCpublic radio stations and ONEN (Old North End Neighborhood).
